MassDEP has announced a new Office of Permitting, Partnership & Performance (DEP3), a welcome resource for housing, economic development, and other complex projects across Massachusetts.
A common challenge in any type of development is navigating the entitlement process efficiently. DEP3 appears designed to support an efficient and effective permit process by improving coordination across MassDEP regions, assisting priority projects, supporting Fast Track Permitting, and helping applicants navigate complex local, state, and federal review processes.
That kind of coordination matters. Predictable, transparent permitting can help advance much-needed housing, commercial, industrial, and infrastructure investment while still doing the important work of protecting natural resources and public health and safety.
For project owners and development teams, this is also a reminder that early planning is critical. The most successful projects will still need thoughtful site due diligence, clear permitting strategies, sound engineering, and proactive coordination with regulators and communities.
We look forward to seeing how DEP3 helps create a more efficient path for responsible development in Massachusetts, one that supports economic growth and livable communities without compromising environmental protection.
