  • Civil/Environmental Engineer-In-Training - Hybrid/Southborough, MA
    Beals and Thomas, Inc. Southborough, MA Beals + Thomas is seeking an energetic Civil/Environmental Engineer-In-Training to work collaboratively as part of our multidisciplinary team. As part of B+T’s Civil Engineering discipline, you will work with our team of land surveyors, civil engineers, landscape architects, wetland specialists, and permitting specialists to provide design, permitting, and construction-phase support for a variety of private and public sector development and conservation projects. About the Position The position will be based out of our Southborough headquarters with a hybrid schedule incorporating work from home days. Travel will be required (mostly within Massachusetts, but occasionally to other New England states) to perform municipal research, fieldwork, meetings, and public hearings. This position allows the opportunity to collaborate on a variety of public and private sector projects including mixed-use, commercial, resiliency and renewable energy projects. Assignments will include performing site research, stormwater management design, earthwork quantity analysis, subsurface investigations, construction cost estimating and construction observations. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: Prepare and check numerous hydrology, hydraulic, earthwork and quantity calculations Prepare project designs and design plans Manage work assignments on a day-to-day basis Ensure assignments are completed accurately and on-schedule Research, obtain and analyze data and information to prepare written reports, conceptual designs, or calculations, which may be complex Assist with project permit application preparation Assist with technical report preparation Prepare technical specifications Perform construction administration services including preparation of field reports to document services Undertake field work including site visits, site reconnaissance, soil observations, flagging and staking Obtain proficiency with equipment and software pertinent to the performance of engineering tasks Represent the Company at meetings with clients and governmental agencies, including evening and weekend hearings and meetings Assist in addressing client coordination and inquiries with guidance from Project Manager/Director Responsible for Project Management and scheduling with guidance from Project Director Participate in professional activities and organizations, including evening and weekend events Qualifications, Skills, and Experience The ideal Civil/Environmental Engineer-in-Training candidate will have the following qualifications: Minimum of 0-3 years relevant experience in site civil engineering Prior internship or co-op experience Bachelor's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering EIT Registration Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D Experience with the MassDEP Stormwater Management Handbook Job Type Full-time Corporate Identity At Beals + Thomas, we know that the foundation of our reputation and success lies with our team.   • Survey Technician - Southborough, MA
    Beals and Thomas, Inc. Southborough, MA We are currently seeking a Survey Technician to routinely perform research, calculation, deed and easement analysis, record data compilation and CAD drafting under the direct supervision of the Professional Land Surveyor (PLS). Job Responsibilities Gather data, record calculations, field work review and processing, and plan preparation Record data including deeds, easements, utilities, local by-laws and regulations, zoning data, assessor’s data and plans, FEMA and other data relevant to the performance of the assignment Process field data and make any adjustments of traverse data and levels With direction, record calculations and document results for review and approval of the PLS Draft field notes, record boundaries and easements in CAD, draft spot elevations on topographic surveys, and prepare rim and invert schedules With assistance, may compile underground utilities and prepare rim and invert schedules Perform trial boundary calculations and prepare documentation as directed by the PLS Prepare final plans and check legal descriptions Monitor compliance to regulatory, professional and company requirements Assist project director and/or project manager with client relations as applicable to the survey Assist in training and development of staff surveyors; provide feedback on level of skills and productivity Assist in completion of fieldwork with the field chief, when required Assist with budget development and additional survey services when necessary Ensure survey services assigned are completed in accordance with contract scope and budget ​ Qualifications and Skills Bachelor of Science or Associate’s Degree in Land Surveying or equivalent Two years of field survey experience as a field chief and two years of office experience as a Survey Technician Formal survey courses related to survey including traverse adjustments, coordination of systems and transformation, error analysis, and knowledgeable in 250 CMR 6.0 and the Land Court Manual of Instruction formal training, required Possess strong site surveying knowledge including field work, data processing, research, boundary analysis, and ability to use CAD to produce finished plans Possess a full understanding of the regulatory and professional requirement of the survey; ability to research when necessary Experience with field work being performed in various weather and site conditions, including construction layout, topographic surveys, rural boundary surveys, title insurance surveys, waterfront surveys, bound setting and bathymetric surveys Excellent attention to detail Strong verbal and written communication skills Ability to multi-task Disclaimers: Applicants, as well as position incumbents, who become disabled as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act must be able to perform the essential job functions (as listed) either unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation to be determined by management on a case by case basis.
