Massachusetts Nominates 104 New Opportunity Zones

A new round of Opportunity Zones could shape development and investment decisions across Massachusetts beginning in 2027.

On Oct. 2, the Healey-Driscoll Administration nominated 104 census tracts across 46 municipalities for federal Opportunity Zone designation. Final certifications are expected later this fall, with the new designations anticipated to take effect Jan. 1, 2027.

For developers and investors, the updated program may create new opportunities to align private investment with housing and economic development projects. For municipalities, the nominated tracts offer an important opportunity to consider how zoning, infrastructure, redevelopment planning and local economic development strategies can position these areas for investment consistent with community goals.

B+T works with both public- and private-sector clients to evaluate development opportunities and community planning strategies.
