New England Business Center Amenities Building
Andover, MA
Beals + Thomas provided professional services to assist with survey, design, permitting and construction administration of an approximately 20,000 square foot Amenities Building to serve the tenants of the New England Business Center in Andover, MA. The Amenities Building includes a cafeteria, fitness area and conference space, as well as a patio just outside the cafeteria for enjoyment by tenants of the Business Center during breaks or for open-air collaboration.
An Unlikely Story
Plainville, MA
Beals + Thomas assisted Jeff Kinney, the prominent children’s book author and resident of Plainville, and his architect, Bergmeyer Associates, Inc., on the redevelopment of 111 South Street in Plainville, MA and the opening of the new bookstore, An Unlikely Story.
The project, located on a prominent corner in the center of town, has replaced the beloved former general store, Falk’s Market, which sat vacant for 20 years. The new building has enlivened downtown Plainville with a bookstore, café, meeting space and conference rooms that utilized by various local organizations. The building also includes a writing studio for Mr. Kinney, where he intends to produce additional stories in the popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.
Beals + Thomas prepared the landscape design as well as calculations and documentation to assist in achieving LEED® Gold certification.
Weston Corporate Center
Weston, MA
The 74 acre site of a former Mass Broken Stone quarry operation and bituminous concrete batching plant was redeveloped into the home of a new high-tech corporate headquarters building. Beals + Thomas has been the project engineer and surveyor on this site throughout the design, permitting and construction process. The development program includes a four story, 350,000 square foot office building with on-grade and structured parking for 1,228 spaces. The project developer, Boston Properties, used innovative technologies including deep water withdrawal from the quarry pit to provide all of the cooling needs of the building, as well as a substantial on-grade solar array which provides power to the on-site wastewater treatment plant.
The USGBC awarded the project with a LEED® Platinum rating.
The Andover Companies
Andover, MA
Beals + Thomas provided the site design, permitting and construction administration for The Andover Companies Wellness Center, an approximately 11,000 square-foot facility offering fitness areas featuring stationary bicycles, free weights and machines, exercise classrooms and conference spaces all overlooking the Merrimack River. The project marked a return to the site for Beals + Thomas where we participated
in the design and construction of The Andover Companies
headquarters building in 1988.
The site design maintains and emphasizes the rural character of the site. A well-balanced combination of aesthetics, functionality and environmental engineering was utilized throughout the design development. A 1,700-foot-long driveway follows the contour of the land and is accented by a fieldstone wall.
