Design Approach
B+T’s landscape architects begin each project with a thorough understanding of the site — its physical characteristics, ecological context, regulatory framework, and the community it will serve. Site analysis and natural resource inventory inform every design decision, from grading and drainage to planting selection and pedestrian circulation. The team uses illustrative exhibits, solar and shadow analyses, and viewshed studies to communicate design intent clearly to clients, boards, and the public.

Programming evaluation and testing are central to the firm’s process. B+T works with clients to define project goals, assess feasibility, and develop phased implementation strategies that reflect available funding and long-term vision. Master plans are developed with meaningful public engagement, translating community input into actionable, buildable designs.
Parks & Recreation
B+T has designed and managed improvements to dozens of parks and recreational facilities throughout Massachusetts. Projects range from small neighborhood playgrounds to large multi-use athletic complexes. The firm’s work for the City of Worcester has included master planning for six park facilities, improvements to the 21-acre historic Elm Park, renovation of Grant Square Park, and a master plan for the 45-acre Hadwen Park. In Waltham, B+T designed the multi-use Cornelia Warren Park, incorporating a softball field, synthetic turf putting green, fitness area, playground, and walking path for the City, and developed a master plan for Nipper Maher Park, a major athletic complex serving softball, baseball, soccer, basketball, and tennis.
For the City of Brockton, B+T designed renovations to the 7-acre James Edgar Playground, adding a skateboard park, splash pad, volleyball courts, futsal court, and basketball court, with funding secured through PARC and CDBG grants. In Holliston, B+T provided pro bono professional services for the Goodwill Park Playground, a 5-acre accessible recreational facility featuring rain gardens, new playground equipment, and reconstructed tennis and basketball courts.
Trails & Conservation Lands
B+T has extensive experience designing accessible trail systems and improving conservation lands for public enjoyment. The firm provided landscape architecture, planning, and surveying services for the Upper Charles Trail Development in Milford, supporting conversion of a 20-mile abandoned rail bed into a multi-use recreational path. For the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), B+T designed a public multi-use accessible trail connecting Newton to Wellesley across the Charles River and provided landscape and accessibility improvements along the Barnes Pathway at the Charles River Reservation in Needham.
At the Storer Conservation Land in Waltham, B+T rehabilitated trails and established routes that minimize impact on a historic landscape and environmentally sensitive areas, with accessible signage and interpretive displays. The firm also developed a Comprehensive Master Trails Plan for Needham, linking conservation and recreation lands town-wide and into adjacent communities. At Rocky Woods Reservation in Medfield, B+T provided professional services for redesign and renovation of a 600-acre property with 12 miles of trails for The Trustees of Reservations.
Institutional & Campus Design
B+T has provided landscape architecture services for educational and institutional campuses, integrating athletic facilities, open space, and stormwater management into cohesive site environments. At Bentley University in Waltham, B+T developed a campus master plan for residential, academic, and athletic expansion, including six new tennis courts, a baseball field, a multipurpose athletic field and running track, and an extensive stormwater management system. For the Fay School in Southborough, B+T advanced design, permitting, and construction administration for a 23-acre Phase I Athletic Campus serving baseball, soccer, lacrosse, softball, and cross-country.
Streetscapes & Urban Design
B+T brings landscape design expertise to downtown corridors and urban public spaces. The firm provided ongoing evaluation and pro bono landscape design services for the Main Street corridor in Southborough, including a new plaza around the All Wars Veterans Memorial and photographic renderings used to secure Community Preservation Act funding. In North Attleborough, B+T prepared conceptual streetscape improvements along East Street, incorporating tree plantings, benches, and paving materials to support mixed-use redevelopment.
Waterfront & Open Space
B+T designed the Cronin’s Landing Riverwalk along the Charles River in Waltham, a 1,000-foot accessible brick, granite, and cobblestone pedestrian walkway featuring Victorian-era lighting, ornamental fencing, a central seating plaza, irrigation, stormwater controls, and a floating dock for boaters. At Lovell’s Grove and King’s Cove in Weymouth, B+T provided site design and civil engineering to connect two public parks, reconfiguring pedestrian pathways, relocating parking away from wetland resource areas, and creating meaningful open space along the Fore River.
