Using DEP's Stormwater Handbook to Achieve Water Quality
Goals Workshop 16C, 1:45–3:00 p.m.
Presented by Beals and Thomas President, John Thomas and Peter
Shelley, VP and Director of the Conservation Law Foundation’s Mass
Advocacy Center. This workshop will provide an overview of federal,
state and local water resource and storm water laws and regulations,
focusing on the goals, scope and interrelationships of the regulatory
framework for storm water. Specific project examples will highlight:
1) the strengths and shortcomings of the 2008 MA DEP Stormwater
Handbook as a tool for accomplishing water quality goals, and 2)
current trends in storm water management design and regulatory review.
Positive Impact Development and Green Design under the WPA
Workshop 2A, 9:45-11:00 a.m.
Presented by MACC Director, Heidi Ricci; Peter Feuerbach, Partner of
Rubin and Rudman, LLP; Scott Horsley of Horsley Witten Group; and
Gerry Preble of Beals and Thomas. This workshop will identify specific
actions Commissions can take as local agents of change for sustainable development, while protecting wetland resources. Going beyond Low
Impact Development (LID), the workshop will identify principles of LEED®
and green design that may be implemented within the jurisdictional limits
of the WPA and local bylaws.
