As part of Beals and Thomas’ 30th Anniversary celebration the firm has committed to undertake a number of pro-bono projects. One of the selected projects is the International Marathon Center project being contemplated on a 15 acre site along the Boston Marathon Route on Main Street in Hopkinton. Beals and Thomas has performed surveying, engineering and landscape architecture services to support the initial efforts for siting and advancing plans for the Center. A combination of data gathering regarding the landscape conditions and field reconnaissance has been performed to gain an understanding of this property including site conditions, soils, wetlands and other unique characteristics. The topographic features of the property include a 100-foot change in elevation from the high point to low lying areas, with steep rock faces and outcroppings that provide dramatic and visual interest. Our engineers and landscape architects are working collaboratively with the project architect, Gorman Richardson Lewis Architects, to achieve the optimum siting for the building, parking, utilities and other program elements. These initial studies and site planning efforts will be used by 26.2 Foundation to initiate planning discussions with the Town of Hopkinton and in its fundraising efforts.
